There’s a great round then there is an exceptional round, just like the one Camberwell Golf Club’s Michael Vesnaver shot on Saturday August 1st.at Freeway Golf Course. Playing in the club’s August VGL Medal competition, Vesnaver, off the stick, shot a 5 under 63 playing off the back green markers.
Vesnaver’s only blemish was a bogey 4 coming on the 4th hole a long par 3. Yet he matched this bogey with six birdies and an outstanding total of 22 putts for the day. The highlight of the round coming on the Par 4 15th hole, where he sunk a 30 foot putt for birdie.
Michael is known as Camberwell Golf Club’s best golfer, with a rich sporting background as a state league soccer player. As can happen when people play golf, they bring skills from other sports, something Michael has done with his athleticism, a level-headed confidence and an analytical perspective on the game. With his dry wit after the round he did note he didn’t hit one par 3 in regulation, also saying that the two short par 5’s on the back nine could be classed as par 4’s and that playing preferred lies did help.
Michael’s tips for other golfers wanting to shoot low, are always be resilient, don’t expect to hit every shot sweetly and never get upset with yourself. Such a great round does set the bar very high for Michael, who is hoping to put four such great rounds together for the Camberwell Golf Club’s Club Championship, a trophy which he has never won.
