It is with great sadness that the VGL wishes to advise the passing of one of our previous VGL President Barry Pollock.
Barry joined the VGL back in 1989 and served as a committee man for 10 years before assuming the role of President in 2000. A position he held for 8 years before returning to the Committee for a further two year and then retiring from the VGL officially in 2011. It was Barry and Ted Rodgers his great mate, that were instrumental in the building of the Motel at Mirboo North Golf Club. From there it due to Barry’s love of getting Juniors into golf that the VGL Golf School was born. So, in the September School Holidays, Barry organised a week at the motel for 20 to 30 Juniors. Barry organised a couple of Golf Pro’s to come and provide 5 days of golf instruction and playing. It is worth noting that at last count 4 or 5 Juniors from the VGL Golf Camp went on to be Professional Golfers which is a great credit to Barry and others. Barry, even after he had finished in an official capacity on the VGL, was always available and attended for many years the 2 Sundays that the Pennant Finals were played at Werribee.
Barry’s dedication to Golf was amazing and for his efforts he was awarded Life Membership of the VGL in 2004.
One of Barry’s greatest passions was golf and he joined Centenary Park, were here was a member for well over 60 years. Barry wasn’t one of those guys to sit back and let others do the work and it wasn’t long before he joined the Centenary Park Committee. From there Barry held just about all Office Bearer positions from Secretary, Captain, and President. Barry also had a stint as the Bar Manager at the Club ensuring everyone behaved. If you go into the Clubrooms at Centenary Park you will see Barry’s name up on the Honour Boards and one of those Boards is the Foursomes Championships where the Club named the Event after him. Barry was also awarded Life Membership at Centenary Park which I know he held dearly.
The VGL Committees, Board and all our Clubs, mourn the passing of their esteemed Life Member and friend, Barry. We are deeply saddened and acknowledge that his loss is irreplaceable.
Now at peace forever.

A service for Barry will be held on Tuesday the 6th of January at 10:30am in the Cirrus Chapel at Bunurong Memorial Park, Frankston Dandenong Road, Bangholme. Following the service a wake will be held at Centenary Park Golf Club.
