The VGL’s Men’s and Women’s Country Week teams have capped off a successful three days in Mildura by winning their divisions and earning promotion to the second division for next year.
The Women’s team was managed by Mathilda Martin and consisted of:

- Joanne Stack (Ringwood)
- Aisha Ryan (Albert Park Women’s)
- Catherine Turner (Tirhatuan)
- Deb Cunningham (Brighton)
- Laura Wise (Albert Park Women’s)
- Elim Wong (Albert Park Women’s)
- Jan Hesketh (Ringwood)
- Barbara Muller (Nepean Women)
- Mathilda Martin (Lakeside)
The team won all three of its ranking matches (a 5-2 win against Kara Kara, a 5-2 win against Wimmera, and a 4-3 win against Dalhousie) before halving the final 3.5 to 3.5 against Dalhousie. The tied final was enough to take out the title after the team finished on top of the division after the ranking games!
The Men’s team was managed by Rob Greenhill and consisted of:
- Sam Denison (Lakeside)
- Ashley Zadel (Altona Lakes)
- Mitchell Zadel (Altona Lakes)
- Trevor Scheppers (Centenary Park)
- Rob Greenhill (Ringwood)
- Justin Hawkins (Waterford Valley)
- Joe Scott (Olinda)
- Nicholas Walton (Ringwood)
- Leigh Biggerstaff (Ringwood)
- Sean Hewat (Ringwood)
The team won two of its three of its ranking matches (a 7-0 win against Kara Kara, a 4.5-2.5 win against Wimmera, and a 2-5 lose against East Gippsland) before reversing the result against East Gippsland in the final with a 5-2 win to take the title!

Finally, a big shout out to Peter Frost, Peter Kingshott and Greg Lewin, who travelled to Mildura to support the teams, the various family members and friends who acted as caddies for the players, and particularly, the two team managers, Rob Greenhill and Mathilda Martin, who not only managed the teams superbly during the event, but also put in countless hours in the lead up to the event to select the teams and do a whole lot of work behind the scenes to make sure the teams could perform at their best at the event.
